PSEUDO-WAMPUM

// white to purple seashell necklace made of (what seem to be) quahog clam beads, strung on organic linen yarn
// a depollution / going back to meaning project
// contemporary harvest. The beads were found as several pieces of discarded jewelry strung on steel wire with metal clasps. We freed up the beads, washed them with hot water and soap, sorted them all by size and restrung them on organic linen yarn
// the discomfort of seeing simple natural material allied with energy intensive, non biodegradable and overengineered metallic parts
// a dive into ancient memories by birthing probably the same physical questions our ancestors had delt with: how to use these seashells... in what order... how can they be held together... how does one close this loop…
// a mysterious sense of the former sacred meanings of such items, as currency, as ornament, as ceremony, as representation of nature, as representation of bonds
